Overview
South Dakota is probably best known for Mount Rushmore and the Badlands. It’s also home to nine Indian reservations. Although the cost of living in the state is very low, residents have to deal with some pretty harsh winters. The low taxes, however, may be enough to overlook -58 degrees. There is no state income tax and very low sales taxes. Property taxes fall toward the middle of the pack.
